How To Make Twinkie Truffles (Step By Step Instructions)
Start to finish this easy recipe will only take about 15 minutes.
Step 1:
First, you’ll need to do a little prep work. Grab two mixing bowls, a large one and a smaller one that is microwave safe. Also grab your cooling rack and a plate, bowl or cookie sheet to put under it to catch excess frosting. Parchment paper, tinfoil or even a cutting board would work as well.
Step 2:
Open the can of frosting. Scoop all of the frosting into the small bowl and set it aside for now.
Step 3:
Next, take the wrappers off all of the Twinkies and place them in the large bowl.
Step 4:
Now wash your hands because here comes the fun part! Begin making your Twinkie truffle “dough” by tearing the cakes into smaller pieces (about 3-4 pieces per Twinkie).
Continue to mash, mush and squeeze the Twinkies until it starts to form a thick mixture that resembles cookie dough. Add in the sprinkles and keep working the dough until the sprinkles are worked in.
Step 5:
Use a spoon, cookie scoop or your hands to grab enough dough to create 1-inch round truffles. Place the truffles on the cooling rack and continue to make balls until all of the dough is used up.
Step 6:
Put the bowl of frosting in the microwave for 15 seconds on full power. Stir, then heat for 15 more seconds. Repeat in short intervals until the frosting is loose and easy to pour, but not warm.
Carefully pour the frosting over the truffles. If the consistency is correct, you’ll get a nice even coating of icing. Use as much or little frosting as you like. Top with sprinkles will the icing is still wet.
Step 7:
Allow at least 30 minutes for the frosting to set. You can also put the truffles in the fridge or freezer to speed up the process. Please note that the frosting will not fully harden like a typical chocolate truffle coating. It will remain slightly soft to the touch.
