Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake Oreos Cake Mix Puppy Chow!
You’ve had puppy chow. Maybe you’ve even had strawberry puppy chow. But have you ever tried puppy chow that combines all the best things in life?
Oreos, Cake Mix, White Chocolate, oh my!
Oreo has teamed up with Good Humor (yep, the ice cream bar guys!) to bring us some new limited-edition Strawberry Shortcake cookies that just hit shelves in July.
These new cookies feature classic golden Oreos with little bits strawberry right in the cookie. On the inside is a strawberry shortcake-flavored creme that also has tiny strawberry flavored bits. The bits add a slight crunch which I believe is meant to remind of you the crunchies on the outside of the Good Humor ice cream bars.

There are many recipe variations floating around for puppy chow, but the core principles are pretty straightforward. In it’s simplest form you:
- Take a cereal
- Cover it in a chocolate or other sticky substance
- Coat it with a powder
The beauty of puppy chow lies not only in its simplicity, but also in it’s versatility.
Cue the Strawberry Shortcake Oreos!
The snack world has been abuzz with excitement about the Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake Oreos. I mean, really, what’s not to love above iconic ice cream bars and sandwich cookies getting together.
Puppy chow seemed like the perfect vessel to transform Oreo cookie goodness into snack food greatness!
Strawberry was begging to be star of the show, so we incorporated it in three ways. First, we crushed up the Strawberry Shortcake Oreos and tossed them with the Chex cereal before adding white chocolate.
Regular puppy chow recipes typically use powdered sugar to as the coating. To amplify our strawberry flavor and add a pretty pink color, we coated half of our cereal mixture with strawberry cake mix. I’ve made some questionable decisions in my life, but this is not one of them. The flavor is amazing!
And finally, we added more big chunks of cookies as the last step. Masterpiece complete!
- 1 package Golden Oreo Cookies
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup strawberry cake mix
- 5 cups rice chex cereal
- 10 ounces white chocolate chips or almond bark
Eat an Oreo. All good recipes start this way!
Put the rice chex cereal in a large mixing bowl.
Coarsely chop about 20 cookies. Add about half to the rice chex and stir gently to avoid breaking the cereal.
Carefully melt your white chocolate in the microwave. Use the 'melt' setting if you microwave has one. If not, just microwave as usual but check every 20-30 seconds and stir so it doesn't overheat or burn. You can also add a very small amount of butter to help smooth the consistency.
Slowly pour the melted white chocolate over the cereal and cookie mixture. Combine gently so the cereal and cookies are completely coated.
Grab a second mixing bowl and transfer half of your mixture to it.
Add the strawberry cake mix to one bowl and the powdered sugar to the other bowl. Stir both gently until all the cereal and cookie pieces are fully covered.
Grab a new, clean bowl and combine both mixtures together. Add in the remaining Oreo pieces and stir one final time.
