I was beyond thrilled this week when I saw that our local Walmart finally had the new Reese’s and Hershey’s Whipped Cream in stock! Without hesitation … Bam, Bam! … both cans went in the cart.
There were reports that other stores had these in stock as early as mid-July (2018). Anyone else ever wonder about that? Why do some major chains get major new products so much sooner than others? Why do some never get the products at all? I’m actually quite curious as to how the whole process works.
I think I’m going to do an investigative deep-dive into the underbelly of the grocery supply chain and figure out what’s up. If you know someone who works in the industry and might be able to shed some light on this mystery, please send us an email or leave a comment below.
I guess all that matters is that these gorgeous little whipped cream cans now (temporarily) live in my fridge! I barely had the groceries unloaded before I heard the unmistakable “qweeeeeeesh” of whipped cream can being sprayed directly into a mouth. When I turned around, my husband and 2-year-old both had huge closed-mouth smiles on their faces as they tried to contain the chocolate cream dripping out the side.
At this moment, I had a choice to make. 1) Get mad because my husband didn’t wait for me to take product photos for the blog (he has been trained not to touch new snacks without my approval – haha!) or 2) Join in the fun.
I opted for #2. I closed my eyes, tilted my head back, opened my mouth and waited for the Hershey goodness.
Hershey’s Whipped Cream
Believe it or not, I am not a fan of straight chocolate. I like it in desserts or as an ice cream topping, but I’d never eat a big chunk of chocolate like a Hershey candy bar or a Hershey’s Kiss. I’m weird, I know.
So I honestly didn’t have real high hopes for this whipped cream. But to my surprise and delight, I absolutely LOVED it. Straight from the can, it’s delicious.
It has a strong chocolate flavor with no weird chemical tastes. Add in a touch of sweetness and the light, airy, creamy texture you expect from canned whipped cream, it’s pure bliss.
This whipped cream would be good on pretty much anything. Just spitballin’ here, but a few ideas that popped in my head: on top of hot chocolate, in your coffee, on an ice cream sundae, on a warm brownie, in a chocolate chip cookie sandwich, on pancakes and waffles, a dip for fruit like strawberries and raspberries, on a strawberry shortcake. The possibilities are endless!
So should you buy the new Hershey’s Whipped Cream? Yes, I’d say you should give it a try.
How much is it? We scored it for $2.48.
Where can I buy it? We found it at Walmart, but did not see it at Meijer. Also reports of it being found at Hy-Vee, ShopRite and other some other miscellaneous stores.
Reese’s Whipped Cream
In contrast to my thoughts on chocolate, I will literally eat ANYTHING peanut butter flavored. If it has the name Reese’s on it, I open up my purse and say ‘Take all my money.’
Of course, I just assumed I would love this whipped cream. When the first taste hit my taste buds, my heart sank. My brain kept saying ‘Yes, it’s good, right?!’ But my mouth said ‘Ugh, what IS this!?’
It’s definitely not Reese’s flavor. It has a weak, diluted hint of fake peanut butter mixed with chemicals.
At this point, it was clear this whipped cream is not good as a straight-from-the-can treat. I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt, so I tried it another way. I had some Reese’s Pieces laying around, so I mixed them in with the cream.
The candy definitely helped amp up the peanut butter flavor that I expect from Reese’s. But in the end, it was just Reese’s Pieces in some really-not-very-good whipped cream.
Not much else to say here. Just pretty disappointed.
So should you buy the new Reese’s Whipped Cream?
With a heavy heart, I say NO.
This was our first “bad” experience with a Reese’s product – so weird to say that! We certainly can’t have you walking away from a Reese’s review feeling sad, so we’ll leave you with these parting thoughts:
- You should definitely take a look at this and this from Reese’s. If these delicious treats don’t bring you a brief moment of happiness, I’m not sure what will!
- You should also check out our review of the Reese’s Good Humor Ice Cream Bars and Reese’s Outrageous Candy Bars. Yummmmm!
WHERE TO BUY…
We’ve heard reports of these new products being hard to find. If you decide to take the plunge and give these a try, here is a handy product locator that might save you some time. Just type REESE’S or HERSHEY’S in the ‘Find a Product’ box.
