Tips and Tricks For The Best Fudge

Caramel Melts vs Regular Caramels: Stick with caramel melts instead of regular caramels. Caramel melts are specifically formulated for melting and setting properly, which is crucial for achieving the right consistency in your fudge. Regular caramels will not work.

Substitution For Caramel Melts: If you are unable to find the salted caramel melts, you can substitute an equal amount of caramel baking morsels. They are basically caramel-flavored chocolate chips like these. If desired, you can add a dash of salt. Do NOT substitute real caramels.

Pan Size: If you use a smaller pan, the fudge will be thicker, which means it will take longer to set and result in larger pieces. A larger pan will produce thinner fudge, setting more quickly and resulting in smaller pieces.

Green Apple Flavoring: Any apple candy flavoring can work, but LorAnn is known for its strong, consistent flavor. Here is the product we used: LorAnn Green Apple Flavor. If using another brand, you might need to adjust the quantity to get the desired flavor intensity.

Stirring: When microwaving the candy melts, stop every 30 seconds to stir. This prevents overheating and ensures a smooth consistency.

Swirling Technique: To achieve a more defined swirl effect, you can use a toothpick or a knife to gently swirl the mixtures together after pouring them into the pan.

Chilling Time: For best results, chill the fudge for the full 4 hours or until completely set. If you’re short on time, you can place the pan in the freezer for about 1-2 hours, but be sure to check it regularly to avoid freezing.

Cutting the Fudge: Use a sharp knife or a pizza cutter to cut the fudge into pieces. For cleaner cuts, lightly coat the blade with cooking spray or run it under hot water and dry it off before cutting.

Storage: Store the fudge in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for up to 3 months. For added freshness, layer the fudge pieces with parchment paper or wax paper in the container.

Serving Suggestions: This fudge makes a great gift or fall party treat. You can package it in decorative bags or boxes for a homemade touch.

Yield: Makes around 32 pieces (1/2 inch in size)
